What is it about?

Ever wondered why reintegration looks different for women?

Why do some return home carrying the weight of shame, unspoken trauma, and unrealistic expectations and how does that shape their path forward?

What Is This Module About?

This 24-hour asynchronous, self-directed video-based elearning takes you inside the lived realities of women who have walked the road of incarceration and back. Through candid video sharings, you’ll hear what support felt safe, what caused harm, and what they wish volunteers understood. Supporting women in correctional contexts isn’t about fixing, it’s about listening, noticing, and showing up in ways that respect pace, choice, and dignity.

This module is designed for volunteers and support workers who want to understand and respond to the specific needs of women offenders.

You will learn to:

  • Understand how gender shapes pathways into offending, needs during incarceration, and challenges in reintegration.

  • Identify relational, emotional, and structural barriers women face post-release.

  • Apply gender-responsive, trauma-informed principles in your volunteer role.

  • Reflect on how your presence, language, and mindset can empower rather than pressure.
