Do you find it hard to connect with someone who seems angry or withdrawn?
Have you ever misread a reaction, only to realise later it came from pain, not defiance?
Do you know how to hold space for someone grieving even if they can’t show it?
Trauma and grief are often silent, but their impact is loud. They show up as aggression, isolation, or chaos.
This course helps you understand what drives these behaviours in incarcerated individuals and how to engage without re-opening wounds. You’ll gain tools to support others in pain, and strategies to care for yourself along the way.
What Is This Module About?
Wounds Unseen is an 8-hour virtual training that explores the hidden emotional forces behind many correctional behaviours: trauma and grief.
You’ll learn:
What trauma looks like and how it feels in the body and brain
How loss is experienced behind bars, where grief is often unspoken
How trauma shapes responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn)
What it means to be trauma-informed and grief-aware
How to support others while managing your own emotional load
Through lived-experience stories, real-life case studies, and guided practice, this session helps you show up with empathy not assumptions.
How This Course Makes a Difference
